Idul Fitri celebration has been identical with eating spicy meat and chicken as well as leaf-wrapped rice called “Ketupat”. For this celebration day, I had been busy cooking cakes and one day before Idul Fitri day, I had all meat, chicken and rice cooked by my mother. It is always her who cooks meat, chicken, rice and other types of foods like potatoes chopped into small cube-like pieces cooked mixed in spicy seasoning. All these types of foods are mostly prepared for Idul Fitri celebration.
As possibly found in any other religious celebrations, the celebration day is mostly spent visiting parents, other families and relatives. Sons or daughters who live and work in other cities usually come to their home towns where their parents still live.
The first day is usually spent in parents’ house where you will find lots of other guests, most of whom are neighbors and relatives. My mom usually prepares meat, chicken and other foods for her visitors. Not all parents prepare all cooked foods for their guests. Guests usually come to shake hands as signs of apology. Idul Fitri is the day considered to be the day in which Muslims forgive each other for the mistakes they made intentionally or not.
What I am concerned about during Idul Fitri celebration is that most of us eat fatty foods and such beverages as cokes, lemonade and things like that. I am aware that from a health standpoint, all these foods and drinks are not healthy. Those who suffer from hypertension and coronary disease should be cautious. What I and my husband usually do after two days of the celebration is walk a long way in order that we will be able to get rid of all those depositions of fat in the body. Most Muslims usually put on a lot of weight after several days.
